IBM Power10
IBM's Power processor generation that preceded Power11, announced August 17, 2020 and shipping from September 2021, the first Power chip to embed Matrix Math Acceleration into every core for on-chip AI inferencing without a separate GPU. IBM began winding down new Power10 sales in February 2026.
IBM announced the Power10 processor on August 17, 2020 at the Hot Chips 32 conference and began shipping it in September 2021 in the high-end Power E1080 server, with entry and midrange IBM i systems such as the Power S1014 and Power S1024 following in July 2022. Power10 was the first Power chip to embed Matrix Math Accelerator (MMA) engines into every core, letting Power-based IBM i, AIX, and Linux partitions run AI inferencing on data types including FP32, BFloat16, and INT8 without a dedicated GPU or accelerator card. IBM i support for Power10 requires IBM i 7.5, 7.4 Technology Refresh 6, or 7.3 Technology Refresh 12. Power11, announced in July 2025, carries the same MMA design forward. In February 2026, IT Jungle reported that IBM had begun winding down new Power10 sales, with an order cutoff of July 31, 2026 in most regions and July 30, 2027 in China and South Korea, as IBM shifts customers toward Power11.
