Large Language Model (LLM)

LLM

A machine learning model trained on large volumes of text, used as the underlying technology behind generative AI tools including IBM Bob and general-purpose assistants like ChatGPT and Claude.

Large language models are the foundation-model technology behind modern generative AI, including code assistants. IBM Bob uses a fine-tuned model built around the IBM i execution environment, while general-purpose assistants such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, and Claude use LLMs trained more broadly across many programming languages and natural-language text.
