AS/400
IBM's original 1988 midrange business computer platform; the term is still used informally to refer to IBM i systems and shops even though IBM has rebranded the hardware and OS multiple times since.
AS/400 (Application System/400) was IBM's original midrange server line, introduced in 1988. The hardware has since been rebranded through eServer iSeries, System i, and now IBM Power running IBM i, but 'AS/400' remains the term most commonly used in the field to describe the platform and its long-tenured shops and developers.
